Tip Your Hairstylists!

You should tip your hairstylists. It’s the day before Christmas so be a giver this salon visit. Yes, if you visited the barber, you should tip him too. Welcome to another seasonal entry, thank you for reading in advance!

So personally, I would tip my stylist and barber- I used to get my eyebrows shaved before 2020- but I never gave it much thought and I didn’t do it on a regular basis. Well, that is about to change, when I do get back in my hairstylist’s chair best believe I’m tipping her generously.

Why the sudden need to give, well, I tried braiding my cousin’s hair on the 23rd of December, 2020 and guess what? I had the most stress and fun all mixed into one. I enjoyed the results and the first half of the process but the time it took to complete the hairstyle was too much for me. I ended up with swollen feet and some back pain, not to mention the irritation on the skin at the base of my fingernails- ouch much! I’ll insert a short video of the resulting hairstyle when it is posted on my YouTube channel shortly.

Needless to say, I now have even greater respect and appreciation for my stylist, because she stands for hours on end, parting, braiding, twisting and cutting hair and she never complains- well not too loudly-. While I had just one night of doing someone else’s hair and I feel like I had the mission of my life. I have done other people’s hair before but never this size nor length and never for this long: 8 hours factoring in all the times I stopped to eat and attend to various responsibilities. So I think I speak for all stylists and barbers when I say “tip me please, I deserve it” because they really do.

If you’re in Jamaica, you most likely went to Grand Market today to get your nails and hair done, so feel free to sweeten your hairstylist’s pocket and make their Christmas even better. If you didn’t today, remember to do so on your next visit.

Enjoy your Christmas and have a great hair day!
