Why is Your Natural Hair Falling Out? 12 Ways to Stop Hair Loss

Welcome to Manes and Crowns, the kingdom where your hair and facial hair rules. Thank you for choosing this blog always.

I recently received a message on Facebook from a young lady asking what to do about her natural hair falling out. I responded to hear and wish to share my response with you. To properly answer that question there are factors we have to consider;

  • Health conditions eg. Alopecia
  • Hair type,
  • The products being used/not being used,
  • Insufficient moisture,
  • Too much styling or styling too tightly,
  • Diet.

Why is it important to know the above before addressing the condition? Knowing what you’re working with and what the underlying problem is, will best equip you to fix that problem. Therefore;

  1. Read my previous blog to find your hair type.
  2. Lay out the products you’re using.
  3. Identify which product (s) you last used before realizing your hair started falling out. If you can’t readily identify it, that is fine. You can try again if the condition increases after continuous use of a specific product (s). You can also try again once you have adjusted all the other factors and no change is observed. If adjusting everything else fixes the problem, then you can rule out the hair products as being the cause.
  4. Check the ingredients of each product. Stop using those with mineral oils, sulfates, parabens, formaldehyde, alcohol, sodium chloride and petroleum. These products are acidic, intensely drying and damaging to the scalp and hair follicles. They may likely be the reason for your hair loss.
  5. Use products such as protein masks, castor oil, Shea butter, coconut oil, aloe vera gel, jojoba oil, honey and avocado oil. Shampoos and conditioners with natural ingredients are the best.

  6. Moisturize your hair. Dry hair will fall out eventually, picture dry leaves falling from a tree. Never detangle or style your hair when its dry and brittle. Not only does it irritate the scalp, hurt and makes it hard to detangle. It causes major breakage. That is why so much hair comes off in your comb. Spray water and add conditioner/leave-in conditioner to style.
  7. Always use a cream moisturizer before using an oil. Oils seal in moisture not add it.
  8. Style your hair less. Your hair and scalp may just be tired of all the manipulation and pulling you put it through regularly.
  9. Do not style so tightly. Stop pulling so hard on your hair, those headaches or bald patches and thin edges you have are telling you something.
  10. Eat foods which cause hair growth. When our duet is filled with sugars and salts we will lose hair, energy and the ability to function effectively. Eat well.
  11. Drink water. Like a plant your hair follicles need to be watered from the roots to produce strong, healthy hair.
  12. Take your vitamins. Visit the pharmacy for vitamins, A, B, C, D, E and supplements. Iron and Zinc are also essential. You can begin with purchasing vitamin B and iron supplements. Your doctor may help you decide which you need immediately.

  1. People are not aware that fast hair growth shampoos (of course with no sulfates, no parabens, no DEA) are a thing. Individuals are now able to have longer hair and possess more alternatives. Undoubtedly worth researching.

    If you’re studying hair loss, damaged hair, preventing skin disorders, hair growth, hair health normally, the same ideas become relevant.

    In most cases, you will want to avoid hair treatments and products that use chemicals such as parabens, DEA and sulfates.

    What is healthy for your hair is beneficial for your skin also.

    For obvious reasons the content above is so accurate for various reasons. It stays away from the usual traps and mistakes too many fall into- getting ineffective alternatives. Greatly appreciated!
