Best Hairstyle Trends and Ideas For Christmas 2020: Suggestions for Women

Let’s discuss my top picks for the best popular hairstyles for the Christmas season. Welcome to another entry of what is shaping up to be a great 12 Days of Christmas / Blogmas!

I was thinking about the hairstyles I noticed that are trending on Instagram and while I like a few, there are some I’d love to see more of and others not so much. No shade, but this festive season calls for festive yet practical hairstyles. I know with the current pandemic, some of the excitement might have dwindled but let’s face it: we can still dress up and chill with our families and close friends at home while rocking some hot styles.

The hairstyles I’ll be listing are practical for everyone all across the world and have been popular in the US and Jamaica for some months now, however, I’d like to see more of them being sported, especially by my fellow Jamaican women this season.

  • Knotless Braids. Yes we know, braids are always trending due to the various amount of designs and in large part to their flexibility and durability. Knotless braids are no different, a major plus is that they are really cute. I’d love to see smaller knotless braids this Christmas. If you live in non-tropical countries where the weather can get snowy and very frigid, you want a hairstyle that requires little manipulation, protects your hair from the cold and will last for most of the season, knotless braids can do all of that. If you live in a tropical country like Jamaica where winter can be a figment of your imagination- cue sunshine- you still need a style that will do all the above; in this case protect your hair from the sun. To spruce up the look, adding some colored braids would be great.
  • Bob Faux Locs/ Faux Loc Bobs. Faux Locs were a big thing during the summer but I think they are better for the cooler season. After all they are far thicker- more heat on the head- and way more durable than braids. I have seen enough of the near-buttocks length though, this Christmas let’s bring out the short bobs. They give flair, manageability and a bit of attitude. If it’s one thing 2020 has shown us, it’s full of just that, attitude.
  • Butterfly Braids. Back to the braids, these playful braids with curls appear messy and neat at the same time. Cudos to braiders and stylists for coming up such creative designs. The curly appearance of some of the braids gives a sense of comfort and sells the idea that the person wearing them is living a fun, somewhat active life. Though we may not be having as much excitement as we are used to, that shouldn’t stop us from looking like it.
  • Blonde/ Bright-Colored Wigs. Is there a rainbow song? Well sing it! I know we often leave the colors back in summer, why though? Winter for most people can be gloomy so this is the season that I’d think we need reminders to be lively and happy. Colorful hair will do that to you. So for those women who love a proper lace wig, please add some color to those strands. You don’t even need to be extra, just a streak of light brown or dark red will do. If you are up to it, seeing a full blonde or platinum with some glitter will make me feel all the joy to be felt. How does the saying go? Go hard or go home? I say, go HARDER!
  • Pixie Cuts. I am living for shorter hairstyles this time around. I don’t know if it’s the fierceness that a lowcut gives or just the ease it allows. Either way, a pixie cut that suits your face shape to perfection is what I think would rock this season. Shorter hair is always the better option for women living in the tropics but I believe even if you live in Alaska, a pixie cut under your winter caps or beanies would work just fine. Show some more of your face, let the world see those cheekbones, those eyes and that smile. A pixie with some pink or green? *sings* It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. Personally, I have been stewing over getting a lowcut myself. Bring out the scissors anyone?

I think you get it by now; some color, some flair and durability are what the hairstyles should offer for Christmas 2020. No gloom or limits, let’s give ourselves the gift of great hair this season.

  1. 🤔 I think I’d try the butterfly braids. Don’t wanna cut my hair. And the locks is too much for work. Can’t sit so long and wait for my hair to be braided either 🤷🏽‍♀

I really wanna try the butterfly locs n braids but I ain’t paying arm n leg for it.
I’m not even sure why the price difference is so ridiculous from the normal braids and locs
