Best Jamaican Hair Products of 2020

My favorite hair products of 2020 are Jamaican products. No surprises there when the product line I’ve been using religiously is manufactured right here on my tropical island. Ready to hear what they are? Let’s go!

Zimii Haircare Products. The first time I used anything from this line, I was looking for a relatively inexpensive shampoo and conditioner to try, it didn’t matter the brand or where it was made. There I was in the aisle of a pharmacy in Kingston and the JMD $500+ price tag caught my eye. Intrigued, I went over, read the ingredients and became excited to give them a try. I was even more excited when I saw the Product of Jamaica written on the label. I had only went in for a shampoo and conditioner but I also grabbed the Intense Curls Gel just to top it off.

The smell of the shampoo and conditioner is reminiscent of passion fruit- even if I’m the only one who thinks so- and although I’m not a fan of the smell of the curls gel, I enjoy the results enough to not pay it much attention. Their Hydrating Foaming Mousse became an immediate favorite after just one use. Can you say “shooketh”? Yes that is how I felt, the results were instantly amazing.

Safe to say I am a Zimii’s girl ‘yuh zimii”

Kirby’s Authentic Jamaican Black Castor Oil. The thickest and most natural store-bought Castor Oil I have ever used. Usually the manufacturers of natural oils such as Jamaican Black Castor Oil seem to dilute their products to have a lot to put on the market. Or they use unnatural ingredients to makeup for the very little amount of the actual element -castor bean- that should be in the product. Not this time, Kirby’s generously made this product and the hair-growth I have achieved is testament to that. I have almost went through two 8 oz. bottles in less than 12 months, the second bottle has approximately 4 uses left.

The nutty smell of the oil is also something I enjoy with every use. This product also doubles as a skincare oil so I have been using it as a last step in my nighttime routine.

Green Hills Organics 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. I have used imported coconut oils before and they have always smelt like the extra additives that the manufacturers claim are not in their products. Refreshingly, this Jamaican-made oil is as natural as the fruit is when it’s still attached to tree. Perfect for hot oil treatments and adding shine to the hair. You can also rub it all over your skin right after a shower. I love the actual coconut smell and I’m happy I bought the 32 fluid ounces container after thinking it was too big and I didn’t need that much. This slight impulse purchase at the natural products store in the Sovereign Shopping Centre in Kingston paid off.

This is a short one but I had to choose my absolute favorite Jamaican products of the year. What products have been your favorite? Any local products?

Thank you for reading. See you next time and until then have a great hair day.

    1. You won’t be disappointed with the Zimii line. I’ve never tried Ettenio’s products personally but I’ve only heard good things about them. I should try something from the line. Thanks for reading.
